Additional Learning Support

At Lakemba Public School, we are dedicated to ensuring that every student is ready to learn and thrive. We have a strong focus on supporting students with disability and additional learning needs, enabling them to fully participate in all areas of school life.

Our inclusive approach means that your child can receive tailored support in a mainstream classroom setting, regardless of whether they have a formal diagnosis. We believe support is vital at every stage of schooling, and families can access assistance whenever it is needed.

Together, we strive to create a nurturing and empowering environment where all students can succeed.

Support That Fits Your Child's Needs

At Lakemba Public School, we understand that some students need extra support to build confidence and achieve their best. We work closely with families to develop personalised learning and support plans that highlight each child’s unique strengths, interests and areas for growth.

Through a collaborative and wrap around approach, we set meaningful student goals and deliver explicit teaching tailored to individual needs.

Adjustments are carefully made to ensure targeted support, empowering every student to succeed and reach their full potential.

Additional learning and support may include:
  • small group tutoring to provide targeted literacy support for students
  • effective use of resources and learning materials, such as the use of visuals, scaffolds and hands on resources
  • changes to the classroom, such as ensuring accessibility and changing the seating arrangements
  • specialist support for students learning English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D)
  • providing tailored programs to help high potential and gifted students with their advanced learning needs
  • changes to the amount of lesson or unit content your child learns, or the time allowed for your child to complete a task.
We know a student may need help when:
  • teachers notice changes in their learning or behaviour
  • reviewing assessment results and learning progress
  • parents and carers raise concerns or ask for support.

If you think your child may need extra help, contact us.

Student Wellbeing and Inclusion Hub

The Student Wellbeing and Inclusion Hub provides coordinated wellbeing and inclusion support across our schools by connecting students, families and staff with appropriate services and expertise.

Through collaboration with school leaders, allied health professionals and external agencies, the Hub supports students and their families with complex needs while also building staff capacity to respond to learning, behaviour and wellbeing challenges.

Through coordinated referrals, clinical reviews and follow-up support, students and families are able to access paediatric assessment and wrap-around services earlier than traditional pathways, strengthening partnerships between schools, health services and the wider community.
